The Ten Commandments of Fashion Bible

1. Do not Over or Under-Dress

Assess the event and dress accordingly. Denims do not suit a wedding occasion, cocktail dresses are no- no for picnics, high heels are unpractical at the beach and so on. For day events and night parties take the lighting, the weather and the attendees into account. If you are unsure of the dress code, stick with classic pieces. A silk blouse with jeans & high heel pumps never go wrong. Accessorize less or more accordingly.

2. Be Real

Understand your body and work out what you need to show off and what you need to hide. Keep it real when choosing garments and understand that not all clothes are made for all types of people. Be comfortable in your skin and pick the pieces, which compliment your body type.

3. Mix & Match

There are some design rules, which apply all the time. Paisleys & stripes never go together. Prints are lovely, but one should know how much is too much. A safe bet is to make bottom garment a plain color and team it up with a printed top. Stripes, polka dots, floral and leopard prints are all extremely funky, but they need to be wisely matched.

4. What color you want?

Choose colors that compliment your skin tones and your shape is as important as choosing the perfect fit. Black is slimming, but it can also seem glum and boring, try to glam it up by adding silver and gold. White is a lovely pure color, but it doesn't suit every shape and usually adds a little onto everyone, so be careful when wearing. Do not be scared of experimenting with beautiful color palettes: jewel colors, pastels, color blocking etc.

5. Accessorize Well

Talking about the “right accessory” is sort of like talking about “the perfect fitting jeans”. Like any other fashion and style choice, it has to be made on the basis of your body, personality and occasion. When wearing bold prints, you may not need anything else. When your dress is heavily embellished, team it up with beautiful earrings and delete the neckpiece.

6. Less is More

Avoid overdoing the accessories. One necklace and one bracelet is sufficient enough, overlapping is not the way to go. Coco Chanel, the famous French couturier once said:

"Before you leave the house, look in the mirror and take one thing off".

7. Dress your Age

We are all up for fun and frills, but dress as per your age and body agrees. Stop looking like a train wreck, or a Barbie, if it does not suit you, it never will. Experiment with your looks but whilst considering your bod type & sensibilities.

8. Evergreen Pieces

FAD is the new trend. Fast moving fashion trends keep the fashionistas on their toes. My tip: Try staying with the timeless classic pieces. A LBD, Crisp white tailored shirt, nice pair of jeans, pencil skirt, black pumps, a beautiful pearl string are some of those items which seem to be recycled every season by designers. Know your body shape and keep those classic pieces close to your heart. Keep it simple, stupid.

9. Love Thyself.

Apart from picking the right fashion pieces you also need to style them right. The secret ingredient to achieve this is –‘be yourself’. Add your own flavor to any outfit. Try playing (without going too far) with colors, layering, textures and patterns. If you are feeling traditional and classic, dress accordingly. If you want to feel sexy, let people see this in your outfit. Always give your own twist to a look and Voila! You will get it right every time.

10. No Hard & Fast Rule!

Improvise as you go. You are the best judge of your personality and in charge of how you look. Choose carefully, wear it well and be confident. These are the main rules of being stylish. Fashion trends come and go so it's much better to be a trendsetter than a follower.

Fashion is what you make it. Have fun, Ladies!
